Mission Statement

Central to NYU Shanghai’s larger mission to shape globally-minded thinkers, World Languages encourages students to see the world through a variety of linguistic and cultural lenses. Our language courses aim to build proficiency, confidence, and cultural awareness through a balanced approach to the four skills of language learning. We aim to help students develop competence in the target language and to deepen their understanding of the diverse and rich cultures of its speakers. We offer a variety of courses that help prepare students to use their global awareness, intercultural competence, interlanguage pragmatics, and advanced language skills to become successful in their future endeavors.

Our Chinese Program has a distinct advantage of place, and students can learn inside and outside the classroom
